In our old house we had some sugar ant problems and called Terminex and they charged a pretty penny to get rid of them and while it solved the problem… It just seemed very big corporation like and impersonal to me. After the first month or so after moving into our new home we had squirrels invade our home through an open hole left by Newmark Homes( I am still sore about that subject, another blog post another time).
Long Story short I luckily found someone to deal with our pest problem. Ernest from Waterloo Pest Management did a great job in getting rid of our squirrel problem. He also does regular pest management on our home. I highly recommend him. He is very personable and professional and does a great job on getting rid of any pest problem you may have.

Terminex just quoted me $1500 for a termite problem, one nest 6′ from my outside wall, I think not. Are there any better ideas out there ? Off to Home Depot to see what chemicals they have.

Aztec Organic Pest Control. 443-0123. Organic treatments last longer - no contract is required. Use them whenever you think you need it. You wont be poisoning your children or pets. I have a one story ~2100 sf and the quote I got was $165. For an additional $55 they will block all of the weepholes and put some dust in the attic to take care of scorpions (I have had two in my house in the past year). They may charge more for termites - I’m not sure if there are organic solutions or not - maybe some sort of nematode. Anyway, they are very knowledgeable and it wouldn’t hurt to give them a call.

We have used J & B Pest Control to get rid of some rats. They did a good job, and were very reasonably priced. They also came out for free to look at the problem and give us a quote.
We have had some sugar ants recently as well. We have a toddler and an infant, so I didn’t want to spray chemicals all over the house. I used Borax, and it has seemed to work. Mix 1 cup of warm water with 1/2 cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of Borax until all is dissolved. Soak cotton balls in the mixture and squeeze dry. Set them out wherever you have seen ant trails. Safe for kids and pets and really cheap. I figured it was worth a try, and it worked.
