Workout Places in Steiner Ranch

September 3rd, 2007 · 21 Comments

There are two places to workout/get some exercise in Steiner Ranch. One is Wild Basin Fitness and the other is the newly opened Ernie Reyes Martial Arts. I think the prices at Wild Basin Fitness are a little high, but you are paying for convenience. I want to find out the prices at Ernie Reyes, but that seems like something I would be more interested in.

Wild Basin Fitness Hours: Monday – Thursday: 5:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Friday: 5:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Saturday: 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Sunday: 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Ernie Reyes has an excellant and fun cardio kickboxing class! I tried it awhile ago, and have told all my friends about it, it’s great.
The class is M/W from 8am-9am, T/TH from 7pm-8pm and SAT from 9am-10am. It’s only $55/month for unlimited classes.
The owners, Andre and Cindy, are fantastic. Funny, motivating and work you HARD.

Nothing but good things to say about the class. :)

Are their any lap swimmers out there that are feeling the pain of no access to the pools we pay for? Last summer there were several days where I couldn’t swim laps in either pool because a company was using it for camps or a company was using it to give lessons. Yeah, they say we can still use it (as the association doesn’t allow anyone to rent the pool), but good luck . The lifeguard company won’t allow you to use any portion of the pool accept the very center. If I am already swimming laps, in the designated swim lane, they will walk up and ask me to leave the lane so they can host swim lessons. I complained to the association and they said if I want to swim laps I have to show up as early as 5:30 and finish by 7:30am!! This is rediculous. Two pools and the association can’t give at least one or two designated lanes to swimmers? The home owners don’t have access to the lanes but swim companies can freely have access……and turn a profit!! I just want one or two lanes for crying out loud! sigh.

Wild Basin has a free 2-week pass good until 1/31/08.
I’ve been using it to get into better shape before returning to Ernie Reyes’ kickboxing place (heh, I know. Don’t ask me to explain the logic!)
But they have some great, varied classes in the morning and evening.
I think for an individual membership is $75/month, but don’t quote me. For some reason I thought it was much more. Bummer they don’t have kid care, though. :/

I signed up for the kickboxing class too – it was fantastic! I could barely walk the next week, but that tells me it works! (or I’m REALLY out of shape…). Love Ernie Reyes!

It is a bummer that Wild Basin does not have child care. When the Country Club fianlly opens up, they will have a gym also. I know a LOT of people who drive all the way to Lifetime (Parmer and 620) or 24 Hour Fitness (Arboretum). It’s only approx. 25 a month and they have chold care, so I guesss that makes up for the gas/drive time. I’d pay $100 a month for Wild Basin if they had child care!

Wow! I just tried Stroller Strides today and the new teacher is fantastic! I really feel like I got my money’s worth. I was reluctant to go before because I thought I was just paying to walk, but it’s so much more – resistance training, interval training, etc… I will definitely be sore tomorrow. I think the kids even liked it. They meet MWF from 9-10. Monday at John Simpson Park, Wednesday at the park by Laura Bush and Friday at Bella Mar. This new teacher knows her stuff and she even has her twins with her so it’s a great kid-friendly social environment with a kick-a** workout!

I have been going to stroller strides for a couple of weeks now. I have to say, Stephanie knows how to make the most out of a workout. She has her group fitness certification, and has taught group classes at Lifetime fitness before moving to Steiner Ranch. She has 3 year old twins that come with her to class and we all bring our babies. The ages of our children range from 6 weeks up to 3. If you want to be challenged while having fun, come try out a class for free! We do cardio, resistance training, core, and yoga/ stretching. This class is a lifesaver for me! Oh yeah, and if you are pregnant, Stephanie has a modification for everything.

    Hi Ladies!

I just wanted to introduce myself….I am the new Instructor for Stroller Strides-Steiner Ranch. I have an extensive background in Exercise Science and Kinesiology; have placed in numerous marathons, triathlons and other races, but mainly I’m a Mom who is just trying to fit in her workout like everyone else.
I want to invite all Moms and their babies/toddlers to come out and try a class for FREE and see for yourself how much fun you can have while working out hard with your kid(s).
We also have fun playdates, Moms Night Out, Spa Night, and lots more!
    We meet at 9am: Mon-John Simpson/Wed-Towne Square/Fri-Bella Mar.

I am desperately looking for a private swim instructor for my children. We had a great girl last year who charged $50/hour. I can’t for the life of me find her name or number. Does anyone know who she is? She was referred to me by the main office and gave lessons at the main pool. She always wore a yellow baseball hat. If not, does anyone know of any other good private swim teachers? I would greatly appreciate any help with this matter! Thanks!!!

I need to get into the swim instruction business. $50 per hour sounds like a sweet deal! I am teaching my kids to swim so I should just pay myself.

Any one voting for more Yoga during the weekend in more “mommy” friendly times ?
I wish YogaYoga or the like would open a small operation in Steiner ??

    Hi Moms,
Just wanted to give you an update on some of the “mom” activities at Wild Basin this fall.

We have several new classes this fall, such as Cardio Kickboxing, Hip Hop, and even more Yoga classes with Manu. (There are over 100 classes each month FREE with your membership or $10 each if you are not a member.)

Also, we have a Baby Boot Camp starting this fall for moms, tots, and moms-to-be (more info at http://www.wildbasinfitness.com).

And we are excited to offer new child care options with CCOA. They will do drop-in care for just $7/hour or you can purchase a month of child care for just $100! (4 hours/week)

Anyway, we’d love to see you this fall, so come by and get a 2 week pass and try a couple of classes.

You can also bring the kids to the Fall Festival on Oct. 17 (6:30-8:00) which is sponsored by CCOA, WBF, Rising Stars, and Villaris. There will be trick-or-treating, giant slide, and pumpkin carving contest!

I am loving the Hip Hop class…what a work out! It is one of my favorite things to do. The warm-up exercises and the dance routines take your mind off the stresses of the world. And the Instructor, Leah, makes it so much fun! Thanks for offering the class…you have a client forever!

Just wondered if anyone could let me know what the monthly membership dues are for Wild basin? Also do they have any specials going on ? My neighbour told me he joined for $99 for 3 months, and no other fees?? Is that right? New to the area really want to join a Gym but want something that is affordable and not too crowded…
    thks

We’re on a family membership, so I’m not sure of the individual dues — just call up there. The front desk personnel are friendly.
We’ve gone there from shortly after they opened. The gym is, obviously, much smaller than a Gold’s or Lifetime (we were previously members at both at different times), but it has all you really need for a good workout, unless you are into the type of circuit training where the machines do all the work. They also have a good variety of classes.
At “primetime” there are plenty of people in there (as with any gym), but I can only recall one time that I’ve had to alter my workout to wait on a machine. Oh — and the drive time can’t be matched ;)

I am just moving to Steiner Ranch this Agust, and I am looking for a good gym when I can do some cardio and weights. I will like to have a personal trainer, does anybody knows a gym besides wild basin?

  • 20 Drunken Goat // Aug 4, 2010 at 10:03 am

Has anyone been to both Wild Basin and the new Anytime Fitness? How do they compare?

  • 21 Tessa Strader // Jul 14, 2011 at 2:47 pm

I’m opening Pilates at Four Points next to Anytime Fitness. I will have full equipment Pilates training, Yoga, AND Parent & Me Yoga. All levels are welcome, so if you’ve never tried Pilates, this is the perfect opportunity. If you currently practice Pilates but have to drive to the opposite ends of the earth, then come see me. My web site is still under construction, so please bookmark it and check back soon for details. I’m a professionally certified trainer through Peak Pilates and have been teaching in far west Austin for over 3 year. I have many happy Steiner Ranch clients and now that I’ll be so close, I hope you’ll be one too. Exercise to reward your body, not to punish it! Tessa 767-4791
