Lakeside Pizza and Grill Review

October 4th, 2007 · 12 Comments

First Day Review of Lakeside Pizza and Grill.

Me and my wife went to the first day of the restaurant being open. Some good things… some things that need to be tweaked.

First the food. No complaints here. We ordered a salad and a pizza and shared both, and it was a lot that we had to take some leftovers home. The pizza style is much like Austin Pizza and Rockin Tomato in the sense of the lighter/thinner crust and higher quality cheese and ingredients. They also have salads, soups. hoagies, sandwiches and more. They also have beer, wine and I assume a full bar.

Next the layout. I liked the layout a lot. Its an L shape with plenty of seating. On the longer side of the L is a wraparound bar and the open air kitchen is behind the bar. There is also a staircase that goes upstairs to a small landing that can seat about 10 people. The only thing I did not like is the lighting in certain areas is not that bright. I did like the five or six flat panel TV’s on the wall above the bar, though.

So far so good. Pretty smooth opening. I suggest you check it out for yourself. That parking lot with the opening of Fion and Lakeside Pizza and Grill was as full as I have ever seen it.

Ate there last night. Agree with your comments - good pizza, good salad. Promising place.

Ate there tonight. Service was very slow, but the waiter was good. That sounds contradictory I know, but it is what it is. The Garlic Cheese Bread was a tasty appetizer and the Pizza looked real good. The Meatball Sandwich however needed some help. Maybe I’m picky but if you are going to offer a Homemade Meatball Sandwich - it better be good. The wine list could use some attention as well. The By the Glass offerings swing wildly. I am a huge fan of La Crema, but not enough to pay $11.00 a glass. I’ve always believed that a reasonably priced selection of decent By the Glass wines would win over your customers faster than a larger inventory of highly priced bottles. The atmosphere is nice and with some tweaking I’m sure the Lakeside Pizza and Grill will be very successful.

Wife and I ate there last week. Only major complaint is that it’s very noisy in there. With all the hard surfaces and lack of tapestry there is no sound dampening. This means that one can have difficulty hearing their waiter or dinner companions.

This place is fine, sure over run with kiddo’s but what do you expect. The place has plenty of time to grow or improve the menu, hang in there Lakeside!

I want to try it, but will avoid buying La Crema there — I really like the wine, but $11/glass for a wine you can buy for $17/bottle? That’s crazy

DOn’t mean to throw a wet blanket on the discussion, but we went in a couple of nights ago, and weren’t impressed. Granted, we didn’t try the pizza, but the dishes we had (a pasta dish and a philly cheesse steak) were about what you’d get at, say, Applebees’ or TGIF. Bland, and not well-cooked. The drinks were lousy.
We do plan to go back, and try pizza and beer, and see how that goes.

Ate there a few weeks ago and it was way too loud and the pasta we had was average. We may try again for pizza as I hear the pizza is pretty good, but it will most likely be take out as the niose level is just off the charts.

Wife and I ordered food to go. Service was lousy and pizza dough was raw towards edge the cheese was not cooked through. Another Austin restaurant in Steiner ranch that is below standard…. Will not eat there ever again …..

A couple of recommendations for Lakeside - try the Spinach Artichoke dip, Chicken Lasagna, and Blacked Tilapia… we’ve ordered all the several times we’ve been in there to watch football, and they are great! Consistently good and huge portions of food for those that are watching the $ ratio.

Wine offerings aren’t great, but the beer selection is, and Fion is next door for aperitifs or after-dinner drinks. So glad Lakeside is here now and doing good!

Lakeside rocks! We eat there often. The food is high quality and I am a good cook who typically is not impressed with restaurants. The wait staff is wonderful and the bartenders as well. Glad it’s here!

Pizza was terrible.. more specifically, the dough lacks any texture or taste… (yes folks your pizza should have both otherwise its cardboard..)

Service was grand , drinks were okay.. Phillycheese is pretty dry …

Steiner has slim pickings… so I’ll go back as a matter of convenience and to try other options..

We were impressed with the food and atmosphere at first opening.

Lately when we go.. service is horrible. waiting for a waiter for literally 15+ minutes with a 3 year old.

When we order at home the pizza comes in burnt over 3 times now @ 16+ dollars +tip

    too bad.
