I got a few emails and had a dinner conversation on how terrible the road that leads from the secondary entrance of Steiner Ranch from 620 to Quinlan Park Road on Steiner Ranch Blvd. I was surprised to see that other people were so annoyed with it as I was. For the people that don’t take a left turn at the “first” Steiner Ranch entrance to avoid the light to go to Oasis and then a couple of light changes at Quinlan and 620, you might not appreciate the second entrance. I think a lot of people, including me, see the light turn red at Comanche Trail and then turn left at the second entrance. Now it is like playing slalom trying to get your car to drive right over the 1 foot strip of tar that is in the middle of the lane and not have your tires hit it and ruin your drive home.
The first question is why?
I think that is spelled out in the latest edition of the Ranch Record.
Steiner Steakhouse –Site development is underway including site
utilities and grading, plus a wastewater force main down Steiner
Ranch Blvd for the steakhouse to be constructed on Steiner Ranch
Blvd, near RM 620. This site offers spectacular views of Lake
Travis and the hill country. Opening should be in late 2008.
So there you have it, and knowing how things work in general, I don’t see this getting fixed. I will ask around and see what people say, but don’t hold your breath.
UPDATE:
I emailed Sharon, our neighborhood coordinator, and got the email address of the Steiner Steakhouse Contact. She has this as a response.
After speaking to the contractor, the lane where the trench was dug on Steiner Ranch Blvd will be resurfaced, weather permitting, within the next week to 10 days. Please let me know if you have additional questions.
So my faith is restored, things that need to get fixed will get fixed.
Another thing.. in the comments a member of the Steiner family had a comment. I agree with him/her they sell the land to Taylor Woodrow/Morrison and they decide what gets done.

i take this road every day on the way home, and it’s extremely annoying to me as well. IMHO, construction workers did not do a good job at all, and it’s actually getting worse over time.
If someone decides to file a complaint, count me in.

Yup, we might even be able to approach it as a safety issue, especially for those of us who ride motorcycles. Have you seen all that loose gravel?

It is a hassle. So we have the Steiner Family (who owns the restaurant) to thank for the road problem AND the hillside blight called “Beverly’s Ridge.” Thanks, guys.

I am part of the Steiner family and we cannot control what is done to the road. We are very excited about this project, but am also sorry for any hassle this may cause. I am sorry you have such harsh feelings towards this family, but I believe once the land is sold we cannot control what is put on it. Thank you.

yes, this road is a hassle. It was a perfectly good road and now it seems to be just plain annoying. I am excited about this steakhouse though…thank you Steiners!

I had family in town over the holidays. When driving down SR Blvd., my mom said to my sister (who is a teacher!), “Isn’t it terrible that they’re having all of these problems with gophers ruining the roads.” My sister replied, “Gophers can chew through asphalt?”

When you contract out a project as the Steakhouse and all it encompasses, such as modifying the infrastructure under the roads, there needs to be a quality control in place. This surely has not been put in place or has not been reenforced. Rocks now kick up and can damage cars and windshields as well as the tires from the pot holes!

Pardon me, Steiner Family member. The Steiner Ranch HOA newsletter reported that Steiner family members were part of the group opening the steakhouse. If that is not correct, I apologize.
What about Beverly’s Ridge? That is the ugliest development I have seen in a while. Very nice homes perched on a barren hilltop Taylor Woodrow did not develop Beverly’s Ridge — that is a development by the STEINER family along with Sendero Homes. The website for the Beverly’s Ridge development makes it very clear that is a Steiner Family project, not a Taylor Woodrow project.

Wow is this a discussion about the road or a your attitude toward the Steiner family? The road is a problem and I hope it is fixed soon..

No, frankly I could care less about them — don’t know any of them. I was simply pointing out that the family for which the development is named, and who made a significant amount of money by selling the land (which is fine with me) seems to have little regard for the residents here, at least based upon these two developments they are involved with. What irritated me more was the Steiner family member attempting to point the blame at Taylor Woodrow and denying that the family had any involvement with the Steak House project. Though I understand that the road work is necessary, I would be upset with any builder who let the patch work degrade in the manner that it has.
12 RebelXT // Jan 24, 2008 at 2:31 pm
glad to hear that the lane will be resurfaced soon
13 Steiner Res // Feb 7, 2008 at 9:55 am
So I noticed the new patchwork they are doing — it is still very rough even with what they’ve done, and you have to straddle it. That will deteriorate very quickly. Is that all the are doing?
14 RebelXT // Feb 7, 2008 at 1:07 pm
yep it appears they just made a wider patch… it’s still rough to drive on, and is already getting worse. i’m starting to doubt they are gonna resurface the whole lane.

If they don’t fix it, I’ll be the first to lead a boycott of the restaurant! As much as I’d like to have a Steakhouse, I’d rather have a paved road!

Initially I was driving my 2008 BMW 755i to tennis practice I was stopped by a minority for construction issues. I later had tea and crumpets and a tee time at The Hills and then got on my 50′ yaught to putt around and drink Merlot while talking about my success in the stock market. On my way back in my BMW I came down Steiner Ranch Blvd., and to my surprise they had layed asphault of all things. How low class is that? I feel like I’m driving in South Austin to pick up a welfare check….Hardy har like I would really know that feeling? I honestly have to take my new Escalade if I decide to go down the Blvd again. Oh popycock, whatever will we do?

Bag of Awesome–
Actually, Bag of something else comes to mind. Sorry that you feel offended by those of us simply wanting a paved road instead of a giant pothole to drive on. The problem is that the asphalt is uneven, and will be completely worn in no time.
Finally, where in the world do you get any idea that any of us resemble the snooty, racist portrait you describe? Perhaps that is actually you.
Get a life.
18 Bag of Awesome // Feb 7, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Pothole? I see no potholes on the blvd. Second off, “minority” is now considered racist? What I’m stating is your woes are simply unnecessary. You obviously have taken offense to my statement. Why is this? Hit too close to home? While I do agree the repavement of SRB isn’t perfect, I can’t help but laugh at the comments left by the residents. Seems pretty miniscule if you look at the big picture. You take time to complain about the small things in life, but I bet your the same person turning off your radio when the Amber Alert came on today while complaining that it interrupted your music. Then again, a poorly paven road is probably a considerable dilemma :’( sadface for you.

Bag of Awesome wins by means of being too smart.
I think the Steiners have done great with the area. Exchanging a rut in one of their roads for a steakhouse that overlooks lake Austin. Do you realize that by adding business in this area draws more attention to other potential businesses that might want to build in the Steiner Ranch area? What does this mean for you? Property value on the rise. I would sacrifice a little eye sore for my own personal prosperity. They made an attempt to fix the road. For that I commend them. What would you like to see happen? The whole road tore up and repaved? Do you know what a 2 lane road costs on average? $1,000,000 a mile on average. More business drawn to Steiner Ranch, or a nice road. Chocies…. Still a sad face for you. :’(

Correction *Lake Travis* I’m semi-new to the area.

It is simple as this…take Quinlan Park. Everyone knows Steiner Rach and/or Steiner Ranch Steakhouse owners do not want the BLVD left like this and will be fixed. Right or wrong, Bag of Awesome made me laugh. We have bigger things to be worried about. Patience people, patience.

Does anyone ever have anything positive to say in the comments section? This entire site is developing a negative lean that is getting old!
Here’s a thought, everyone commenting could instead work together and complain to the HOA to make them do something about it. If there is damage to the Steiner Ranch property then the HOA can make them fix it.
27 Anonymouse // Feb 19, 2008 at 4:43 pm
The key work here is patience. The road will be fixed in due time. With the amount of construction vehicles that will be travleing this road, it does not make sense to repave it only to have it torn up. When the time is right, the road will be fixed. I think the complaints are a result of the Veruca Salt mentality of “I want it now!”
28 Tim // Aug 25, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Actually there was a reason. This was the original “Grand Entrance” to Steiner Ranch in the 90′s. Quinlin Park Rd was a dangerous 2 lane which intersected with the then more dangerous 2 lane 620. In 1993 I was in a bad accident (rear-ended) while waiting to turn on Quinlin Park Rd.
The intersection was a blind corner (much as it still is, but since the curve was not as obtuse it was far worse.
So the Grand Entrance was built on top of the hill for safety and marketing (with the signs).
After the County came up with funds to widen Quinlin Park, it was done, lights were installed, and you have what you see now…but this was only after 620 was widened and the ox bow was removed on down the road.

Apperently the steakhouse is having financial problems because they wont pay me. Maybe they used the money to patch the road. Anyone else heard anything?
