The two closest big grocery stores are either going under or finished renovations recently, HEB and Randall’s. I only shop at HEB and I like the new layout but would like to see a final plan of what it is going to look like finished. Every time I have gone in recently they have rearranged the shelves and I have to figure out where things are again. I like the new sushi station and cooking stations once they come online. Randall’s in Lakeway has also finished renovations. I have not been there, but did get five or so inserts in the mail. Does anybody in Steiner shop over there? Does anyone know what they are going to do in the renovated HEB?

I only shop at Wal Mart now (except for produce). They are WAY cheaper! For example The organic flaxseed pancakes I buy are a whole dollar cheaper at Walmart. Milk is only $3.71 a gallon vs. close to $5 at HEB. Just got a 10% off deal from Randalls. I’ll probably check them out for the discount, but I doubt I’ll stick with them.

I won’t shop at Wal Mart because of their long history of stepping on the little people. I’m not rich, but I can pay an extra $1 for a gallon of milk (saving gas and wear and tear on my car in the process, since HEB is closer). We all vote with our dollars. How are you voting?

I am looking for an alternative to HEB. They are always out of EVERYTHING. It drives me crazy. They stopped carrying the soy milk I used to buy and the bubble bath for my kids. They were out of diaper genie refills the last 4 times I was there. I could go on and on. I have actually been driving to the HEB on Anderson Mill. Much better selection and certainly much better stocked.

HEB has been low on stocks of many items. I asked a manager about it, and was told that their stock room was significantly reduced due to the construction, but will be back to normal when the construction is finished. Hopefully that will take care of it.

Thanks for the info, Steiner Res. But I have noticed this problem since I moved into Steiner 3 1/2 years ago. When I asked about it then, I was told that it was because the stock room was too small. It really seems specific to this HEB.

oops — maybe they will make it larger as part of this expansion!

HEB is irritating me right now with the whole construction thing that is taking FOREVER, but Randalls is all done and they have EXCELLENT deals on certain things…just have to keep an eye out for items in their circular…PLUS they have a membership card and everytime you rack up $100, it gives you cents off at their gas pump, which isn’t more anymore expensive than any of the other gas stations over in that area…the produce at Walmart is “eh”…so I definitely recommend the Randalls for that…also Randalls has several samples stations and their associates are VERY friendly and helpful…almost to the annoying point
Walmart is definitely cheaper, but if service and quality is important to you, then Randalls is the place…they have much better prices than HEB and like I said, the member card that gives you deeper discounts. (for all you plant/flower lovers, their florist area is wonderful and well-priced)
