i find many of these things good suggestions. however, they will not matter much come this friday. the establishment has been sold to a thai food place. take this for better or for worse but i hope you are happy…

Not sure if it is real or not. Can anyone confirm?

I dined at QPG last night and our waitress informed us of this pending ownership and format change. Last day as QPG is Thursday. Other than that, she had little info. She did not know when the new thai format would open.

I think that place is destined to be a revolving door of restaurant ideas, some places for whatever reasons just don’t stick. Oh well it will be fun to try something different.

Lakeside Pizza is really doing well; they seem to have found their nitch.

I think Fion’s is expanding into a gourmet kitchen, might help drive up traffic for them.

I like Thai food, but I don’t know how a place with such a limited menu will make it in a neighborhood location

I agree with Steiner Res,but it will be nice to try something new. Also, I think a Chik-fil-a would fit perfectly in Steiner Ranch! :)

yes, I vote for the Chick Fil A

Yeah, more fried chicken to make the kids fat.

I’m thrilled… we have somewhat of a lack of ethnic restaurants in this area so think this is a fabulous idea. Hope it will be successful (and tasty)!

Yes - Chick-fil-A. Maybe then Fion could turn into a McDonald’s and Lakeside could be purchased by Pizza Hut. That would be much better than supporting small businesses owned by locals.

Oh - and Starbucks could move in and take over Delicato.

Hmm, Thai food. I would definitely try a new place, but cannot see eating there as often…as it is so specialty. I figured it was just a matter of time before QPG closed its doors. We tried it as Tutto Gusto and thought it was terrible, then were excited when it turned into the Grill, but felt that the food didn’t improve. It is really a shame because with kids, it is a great atmosphere. But we just didn’t eat there because it was priced too high and the food was awful. I was hoping for a Tex Mex better and more original than FLORES, which I think is OK…but it looks like we are out of luck…for now.

At least Thai food MIGHT offer healthier choices than fried food…

My husband and I think that this small business is wonderful..just wish someone with a good, proven track record would find Steiner Ranch, Maudies anyone?

On another note…kudos to Lakeside, food is PRETTY good but would LOVE some variation on the menu, possibly seasonally? Cups and Cones does a great job making a non-original ice cream shop, original, and FION is just awesome!!(only negative would be: don’t waste your money on the desserts…not very good!!) Atmosphere and concept ROCK!

My family is looking into moving to Steiner Ranch and the comments on here get rude and sarcastic pretty often. Pretty surprising…

Thai will be great, although i will miss some of the food at QPG.

I wish we could get a Sushi restaurant in Steiner. Does anyone know when the new Village at Steiner will open and if anyone has leased the space?

If you are at FION, try the Better than Sex cake. very yummy.

Also anyone know when the Steakhouse is targeted to open?

    > I wish we could get a Sushi restaurant in Steiner.

It’s not Steiner, BUT Mizu Sushi down in Lakeway is fabulous! The owner is so nice and helpful, and the food is terrific. Definitely some of the best sushi in the greater Austin area.

I think it would be nice, since there really aren’t any Thai restaurants in the area. I think the location is perfect for a family restaurant. It just seems that the current owners didn’t really put much effort into making it a good place to eat. Maybe they were just banking on the locale and playscape. The food and service was just downright bad. Their other restaurants are much, much better. It’s almost as if they just didn’t care about this one.

I think a family friendly mexican restaurant would be an awesome hit in that location. If I had any restaurant experience and a few dollars to throw away I would have tried to open one up there …but I don’t!

I’m sad to say that as far as QPG is concerned I won’t be missing it too much. We liked it when it was Tutto Gusto, but I agree with many of the comments about service becoming a serious issue.

Regarding the comments about a good Mexican family restaurant, my wife and I stumbled upon one we love that isn’t too far (is anything really close anymore?) It’s called Los Pinos and it’s located on Hudson Bend Road on the way to Carlos’n'Charlies… We’ve been there multiple times and the food is always great, the service is very friendly and the prices are really reasonable.

  • 16 Steiner Res // Aug 7, 2008 at 10:31 am

    Los Pinos is very good.

Still, I wish someone like Maudie’s would take over the space

What exactly is Thai food? I don’t think I’ve had it.

  • 18 mreddy // Aug 7, 2008 at 9:21 pm

Thai food is from Thailand and is similar to Chinese food. They use more basil, potatoes, and nuts in their food compared to Chinese food. They also use a lot of coconut milk in their sauces. If you want to try really good Thai food go to Thai Space in Lakeway and order the Chicken Basil Fried Rice. It is delicious. Also the fried bananas are excellent there.

Thai food has a lot of combinations of sweet and spicy seasonings in a dish. A good basic dish is shrimp pad thai if you’ve never had Thai food.

Love Thai food and can’t wait to try it! I have to say I’m surprised — seems like Chinese food would be more accessible to most, but so far the nearest are Pao’s Mandarin House in Lakeway (excellent, and even serve Chinese breakfast on weekends!) and China Pacific (more run-of-the-mill), also in Lakeway. However, I was in the River Place shopping strip the other day and noticed that Seoul Food (a Korean place that I tried only once and wasn’t impressed) will become a Chinese place soon. Should be interesting to try once they’re open!

    I love Thai food. I can’t wait :)

  • 22 I heart Steiner Ranch! // Aug 12, 2008 at 10:32 am

I could eat Thai food at least twice a week, which is way more than I would eat at any other Steiner food spot.

The new place should do just fine if it’s like Thai Passion downtown: excellent food, good prices, though service at many Thai restaurants is less personal than what some are used to. Those unfamiliar with Thai food are in for a treat, as it’s incredibly delicious, very healthy, and available with a lot of spice if that’s your thing.

As an aside, what is “ethnic” food supposed to mean? Food doesn’t have ethnicity, people do (ALL people do). Ethnic is usually used to mean “non-white,” which is also silly because ‘white’ is not an ethnicity either. ‘White’ can be Skandanavian, Slavic, Armenian, Spanish, Iranian, Serbian, etc, etc. I find it odd, though perhaps a social advance, that in the comments above everything outside of fried chicken is considered ‘ethnic’! But you can be sure if Popeye’s opened in Steiner I’d eat there!

thanks for the reviews of Thai Harmony.Hope they get things worked out. sounds pretty awful right now.

The food is great but they’re blowing it with not being properly staffed. We’ve tried twice to get take out only to be told they’re too busy and come back after 8:00pm.

My husband said the restaurant was about 1/2 full when told this the last time.

I agree with the same comment; the food may be good, but the place is utterly disorganized - especially when they cannot promise a time even when the restaurant was only about half full.

If they dont get their act together, this is another restaurant in that place doomed for failure.
