I spoke with the guys at Fion last night and got th skinny! so here it is…
First off they are planning on having live music friday and saturday with chef grilling on the patio Friday night through Monday night football. The bistro is in pace to open the beginning of October. Right now they are planning on having a private soft opening in the bistro on October ist with a limited menu for the “Go Texan Restaurant round-Up” that will be offered in the pub and on the patio. On Thursday, October 2nd the restaurant will go live on everything for dinner with a “blue plate special” lunch menu to follow shortly after. They currently have tow menus, dining room and late night. Both will be available to eveyone on both sides and the late night will be available until 11pm on weekdays and midnight on saturday. Both menus are available for viewing at the pub now. The owner informed me thatthe menu is seasonal and will change frequently. He also asked me to express to residents to give them feedback, they will be looking for suggestions/and or comment s from the nighborhood. There will be a comment box at the front that they would like residents to take advantage of.

I also asked about the atmosphere and was told that the bistro is a direct extension of the pub. In other words, adult environment. The owner informed me that they are not going to turn kids away but that at the end of the day, they are a wine bar and after certain hours it may not be an appropriate environment for children.

Within a few months of opening, they will also be offering a “take-home gourmet” program that wll include delivery and/or membership with a rotating menu for all family members.

Good luck Fion!!!!!

Yeah!!! I love Fion! I will definitely be showing my patronage! I commend the owner and employees for having the flexible insight to remain a successful business in Steiner in spite of all the opposition and criticism that they recieved during their launch days. They have a brilliant idea and are expanding because of their hard work and willingness to take the risk that is necessary to succeed in todays business climate. Fion will be around for a long time and WILL be successful in spite of this “horrible economy”. When the economy gets bad, what do people do? THEY DRINK MORE! lol! ;-)

I visited the bistro yesterday when they opened. Great food menu. I mostly ate from the appetizers and the sweet potato fries were awesome!
Can’t wait to go and have a full dinner there soon! Like mypursona said, they’re doing a great job there, and the service rocks.

Does anyone know if they take reservations?? I’m planning to take a party of 10 in next week..

  • 4 Joanna // Oct 3, 2008 at 4:54 pm

They do, I frequently see “reserved” tables there.

Gee, I’m still amazed at how a restaurant could do so well when, according to the owner of Tutto Gusto / Quinlan Park Grill (also the owner of Sienna and Brick Oven) it is impossible to be successful here because us residents expect too much.

Maybe they failed because of his bad attitude.

Au contraire, I have experienced horrible service at Fion. I was last there about two weeks ago on a wednesday evening. I sat outside with a few other women and the waiter made us feel like a burden. He actually told my friend that he would prefer she pick a wine off the menu right then, even though she had just gotten the menu and needed a minute to look it over, because he didn’t want to have to come back outside. All five of our jaws dropped
open. Needless to say, he did not receive a good tip.

Every time I go to Fion it is a great experience. The staff is very friendly and helpful with recommendations on the various beers they have.

I actually second BC’s comments, Fion’s staff has always done a wonderful job for us. Specially Josh and Mike. I wish them all the luck they deserve thanks to their hard work.

Josh and Mike are nice, but I too have experienced some snobbery. The girls are usually VERY slow to come over when you sit down and not very friendly.

My wife and I ate there on Saturday night. Some of our firends did as well. Overall, it was a very good experience. The waiters are still getting “up to speed” on the menu. The kitchen was a little slow, but it wasn’t an issue because we were busy drinking and talking anyway. Our food was very good, and our friends said the same. The portions are large, especially considering the prices (which are reasonable).
We’ll go back. Considering it was only the third night that the restaurant was open, we were impressed.

We had dinner there on October 9th and I must say that we were a little disappointed. Although the portions were large, there was little/no sauces or gravy on the food. The meat loaf and mashed potatoes were dry. There was no A-1 Steak Sauce available for the steak. We ended up taking our dinners home, just so that we could put something (anything) on them. I am going to attribute this to starting-pains, and assume that the menu will improve over time. Service was good and everything was fresh, just very dry and very bland. With a little tweaking, this could be a gem of a restaurant for our community.

    A-1?

I think the place in general is a nice place, the biggest issue I have is all the fake people that go there thinking that they are the “bomb”. I have been really disappointed in the level of pretentiousness in Steiner lately, the snooty 50k millionaire, everyone trying to be someone they are not. Unfortunately, the place gets wrapped up in that attitude. I have had a great time there, good service, etc. Maybe its just that the people going there like to think they are entitled to something more than they are????

Wow — I’ve known for a while that someone has started using my screen name (Steiner Res). That last post was harsh, and out of place, so I’m changing my name to something else so I don’t get lumped in with him/her.
To the other SR– if you don’t like the people, don’t go. I generally find most pepole in Steiner to be nice and pretty well-grounded.

I too have been disapointed with the female wait staff. Being a female customer appears to be a burden for some of them.

I have been reading through these posts for some time now. I have been a resident here long before this blog even started, and I am very aware of the changes (both good and bad) that have occurred in this neighborhood. I am compelled to say “shame on you!”. Look through your past posts and then focus on how nit-picky you are now being once you have gotten what you so desperately desired. In this particular incidence, we have a restaurant that has been open a total of 10 days, hit the ground running, and done a bang-up job I might add. The only thing you can find to gripe about is A-1 sauce?!! Come-on people! I have patronized Fion for sometime now, and I completely commend those guys for their service. Sit in there on a Friday night and see how the owner is driving patrons home and calling to make sure their car doesn’t get towed. The girls that work there are top-notch and I am pretty sure that ANY women that lives in Steiner would take on the same composure being in the same work environment. As for the food, I challenge anyone to find portion size, value, and quality within a ten mile radius of Steiner Ranch. Lake Travis as a whole for that matter. Negative, negative, negative!! Come on residents, I know we are better than this.

I travel the world when I work, and eat at the best restaurants from Paris to New York. Fion is now in my top 3 of Texas. Their product is extremly fresh, made with love, and flavorful. The menu is creative, yet classic and fairly priced. Plus, There’s pairing suggestions and almost endless selections of beverages. They have won me and my wife over with their cast iron seared beef tenderloin. Yum! And then their napoleon dessert.. OMG!! nuff said. I only hope Steiner residents know how lucky they are to be home to such a gem.

I wish they would post a menu on their website.

  • 20 Mike and Josh // Oct 14, 2008 at 5:23 pm

We are in the process of relaunching the website. There are just a few more things that need to be added to it to finish it up. We should be able to launch it by this weekend or early next week, and there will be all menus and much more info available on it at that time. Thanks for your patience and overwhelming support!

We’ve now tried the food from the outdoor grill, the restauant, and the bar. All of it was very good. Keep up the good work guys!

The food was incredible. We ate out on the patio — very relaxing environment. The staff was right on top of anything we needed…..overall we loved the experience at Fion and reccomend it to anyone who wants to enjoy a nice night out, with amazing food, and a beautiful environment.

My husband and I ate at Fion about a week ago. The service was terrific as was the food. I ordered the pork chops and they were initially undercooked. Before I could say a word the server noticed the problem and offered to have the chef correct the issue. It was handled promptly and with above and beyond service. Not only did they comp my meal (was not necessary) the chef came by to apologize. My husband enjoyed his eggplant sandwich and the “new and improved” chops were outstanding! This situation was handled so professionally that I will absolutely be visiting Fion again. For the price and good food I dare anyone to find something comparable near or in Steiner.

I’m going to have to agree…definitely some 50K lotto winners hanging out. Bar /wait staff other than Mike and Josh are weak to put it nicely. Quite a few noses in the air and I’m not sure why? I mean it’s a decent place and all but please - “top 3 in Texas”? You really should eat out more often.

I like to go in once in a while to enjoy the variety of quality wines and beers, but usually can’t get past the first glass without my stomache turning over at some pretentious act by a patron or staff.

    What ever.

I have to rave about a dessert we tried there the other night… all of the desserts our table had were great, BUT one in particular - oh my goodness!

Strawberries are rolled in a “champagne” dough and then fried, topped with powdered sugar and served a la mode… imagine a strawberry in a funnel cake and you’ve got it.

    Heaven!!

And, I have to defend the staff there - Joelle and Kim are both absolutely lovely, friendly, and so helpful… they always recognize us and chitchat a little bit on every visit even if we are not at “their” table. Similarly, Mike and Chef Paul can’t be beat!

We love the neighborhood feel there and we are so lucky to have such a wonderful place in Steiner!

Went there tonight for the first time with my husband, and had a nice experience. Staff was very friendly and the food was good. We will be going back in the future. Thanks for opening a place that’s quite and relaxing.
