Does anyone know if AT&T U-Verse coming anytime in these parts? I am not the biggest fan of Time Warner and I think they charge way too much. We have Dish Network and are somewhat happy with it. Is everyone a Time Warner customer?

We had an AT&T salesman come to our door in River Place last week, trying to sell UVerse but I don’t remember exactly when he said it would be rolling out. It was very soon though.

We have Time Warner, and would love to switch to U-Verse. I have a couple of friends in Austin who have it, and it’s a better system and cheaper. I don’t understand why it’s not available in our area

U-Verse is in the Bella Mar area. I know a couple of people that are using it and are happy.

DirecTV HD DVR user here. Picture and sounds are great but their DVR software leaves much to be desired. They never should have dumped TiVO, but thankfully they partnered back up with them and should have a new HD DTV TiVo out in about a year.

It would be nice to see some competition come in to Steiner to lower our prices. I am sick of Time Warner. Especially with this KXAN mess.

My husband runs down that way and he saw them installing the fiberopts in the Bella Mar/ Bluffs area

I am in Headlands and would switch to U-Verse if available at my house (its not per the ATT website). For those of you with DirecTV/DISH, what do you use for economical but good high speed Internet (I have VOIP Vonage home phone)??? I do love RoadRunner vs DSL…
Thanks!

We have been calling AT&T for almost 2 years regarding getting their stuff out here. It is due to the lack of fiberoptic cables (according to them) so it’s good to know they may be out here! I’d sign up if they came and asked me to and had it available. We use Time Warner and loved it up until we couldn’t get NBC. (Kind of lame excuse, I know…)

I absolutely hate Time Warner. We use them for internet service, but that’s only because my husband’s company pays for it. And even free, I wonder if it’s worth it. It goes down all the time, and it is not unusual to be on hold for over an hour when I need to call them – that is not an exaggeration.
We use Dish Network for TV service and have been happy with them. And we have AT & T for phone service. However, the 2 people I know who have U-verse have regretted getting the service (aka “Golden Hadcuffs”). But they are now stuck in a contract. Both have cited numerous service issues.

Thanks, Melissa. I have no issue with TW-Austin other than the price and loss of KXAN. The service reliability has been very impressive for me and I work from home all day – leveraging the Internet and cable extensively.

stmbtsprgs – Sorry I sounded so bitter LOL. It’s just kind of a sore subject for me. Do you live in a newer part of Steiner? It seems as thought the newer areas have more reliable service than the older ones.

I just moved into Monterey and got Uverse. Once the service actually got installed, which was quite a hassle, I’ve been very impressed with it. Picture quality is superior to Time Warner, imo. Internet speed seems comparable, although I haven’t run any formal tests.
The DVR and some of the extra features Uverse offers make me quite happy with the switch so far.

Michael, since you have Uverse in Steiner, do you have a number for them so we can see when they will be available in the rest of the neighborhood. I’m in Towne Hollow and according to the web site, not available. But there is no number listed anywhere.

They’re coming to install mine in Belcara (Bella Mar) in 9 days. I’ve heard there’s somebody in Monterey who works for AT&T and can get people $50 off/mo. for 6 mos., but I missed out on that!

SR Fit, sorry for not responding earlier. To answer your question, the support number I have for UVerse is 1-800-288-2020. Hope you can get it soon. It is definitely an improvement over Time Warner.

We have Time Warner for TV and use AT&T DSL for Internet. The DSL has been great and for $19.95/month, the price can’t be beat. I had basic phone put in for $7 / month so we would have a landline for emergency calls. Otherwise, we use our cell phones for most other calls. I would switch to U-verse in a heartbeat… we have issues every month with Time Warner service.
