The Leander ISD Attendance Zoning Committee will conduct a series of public meetings to share with the community recommended zoning for middle schools and high schools, starting with the 2009-10 school year.
The first meeting will be held on November 12, 2008 at the Cedar Park High School lecture hall beginning at 7:00 p.m. The second meeting will be held on November 13, 2008 at the Artie Henry Middle School cafeteria beginning at 7:00 p.m.
LISD will be opening Vandegrift High School with 9th and 10th graders in the fall of 2009 at its new middle school site (located off of FM 2222 at the former Ribelin Ranch site). The following year, the permanent high school building will open with 9th-11th graders, and Four Points Middle School will then operate for grades 6-8.
The purpose of these meetings is to obtain community input for the committee to consider prior to its finalizing its recommendation to the Board. The final recommendation will be presented to the Leander ISD Board of Trustees at its December 11, 2008 meeting.
Leander ISD is the second fastest growing school district in Texas (of schools with more than 20,000 students) – growing almost 10% just this past year, increasing our total student population to approximately 29,000 students.

I’m curious as to why Steiner is even in the Leander school district. Most of the schools in that district aren’t even in Travis county.

Pete:
Lake Travis ISD would be the logical place. I was told that when that district was formed, the only road acroos the dam was the old road acroos the dam, which was considered unsafe for school buses

ALSO — some of us really need to pay attention to the zoning. There was some discussion last go-round that parts of Steiner (Eastridge, Canyon Glen, etc.) would be zoned for the new middle school, meaning our kids will be separated from the groups they have been with since kindergarden. And, of course, it means we’d have quite drive as opposed to going to Canyon Vista.

Does anyone know if Steiner/River Place students will be permitted at all to stay at Cedar park High School if they are exsisiting students? I know a few kids who are extremely sad to leave their Cedar Park friends and will miss the nice mix of kids from all the areas in the CPHS zones.

I attended the meeting last night. All of Steiner Ranch will stay at Canyon Ridge MS, and there are no proposals that have any part of Steiner going to Four Points.
JA — if I understood what they were saying last night, they are not allowing transfers out of a newly-opened school. I know they did not allow transfers out of Rouse this year, per the District website, unless they have an older sibling at another school. By the way, under the new zoning CPHS will only draw students from Cedar Park Middle School going forward.
