So I’ve been asked to introduce myself to the blog before posting, so here we go
I’ve lived in Steiner Ranch for about a year and a half now so I guess you can consider me a newbie…I think most of us are. I’ve lived in Steiner Ranch as long as I’ve lived in Austin and I can honestly say when people ask me where I’m from, I blurt out Austin. Obviously not based on length of time, Austin is the first place I’ve lived that when I go on vacation, I miss home. I have not run into a single person here in Steiner that has not said, “We moved from such-n-such and we just LOVE it here.”
So with that said, I’m a the mother of four children ages 4, 7, 8 and 11. Wow, so I guess I’m done with the introductions…enough said right? Okay, seriously, yes we have four children. We own an insurance agency that specializes in health and life and I also have my own pet sitting business. That’s where I come in as a new blogger for the Steiner Ranch forums. Mahesh has graciously asked me to post anything and everything that concerns Steiner’s furry kids. Since most of Austin is obsessed with their pets, this is a great opportunity for me to centralize everything the animal lovers out here need to keep their pets happy and healthy and involved in the community. In conclusion, I’m very grateful to have this opportunity to positively impact the lives of all the pet owners out here in Steiner Ranch.

Heather-
My wife and I are currently shopping for a canine companion for our two daughters ages 3 and 6. Any suggestions on breeds?
I think our preference would be something mid to large sized and not a Lab. Maybe a German Shepherd??? What do you think?

IN RESPONSE TO TH: I have four kids and 3 furry kids…I’m very partial to my dogs because they are SO GOOD. German Shepherds are wonderful, but if I had to recommend, I would definitely go for a Boxer
If you click on my link to my website, I believe I have pictures of her there. I rescued her off of Craigslist and she has been the most loyal, cuddly, lazy, sweet, goofy dog I’ve ever had. I love my boston terrier to death, but if you want mid-large, go for a boxer! There’s also the shed factor…boxers don’t shed NEAR as much as a GS. Stick with the short-haired breeds if that’s a concern…some of the best kid dogs are Boxers (moderate exercise), American Bulldogs (not English), American Pit Bulls/Staffordshire Terriers (they are not evil, I swear…some of my best clients have been Pits), Great Danes (laziest dogs EVER), Bull Terriers (little exercise), Golden Retrievers (shed A LOT), Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Wheaten Terriers (no shed at all; hypo-allergenic; we have one and she’s wonderful), Bull Mastiffs (excellent protectors, little exercise), Dobermans (excellent protectors), Rottweilers (excellent protectors but shed a lot), Australian Shepherds/Heelers (need TONS of exercise, but excellent dogs)…if I think of any more to add to this ginormous list, I will post again! Enjoy the rain!

Wire Fox terriers are allergy free, do not shed or drool. They love to kiss but have a tendency to bark if you do not train them. Fox terriers don’t like cats fyi. I’ve had 5 wire fox terriers. I now have Bostons. 2 of them. Boston terriers are great with kids, shed very little, do not drool, snort at times, and are very silly. Both breeds are good with kids and snuggly lap and inside dogs. Good luck picking your pet!
