Smorgasbord Topic…
All three are coming or supposedly getting better… I got the U-Verse sales pitch and decided to not go with it. I think it costs more than my current setup and while some things about it were better (free long distance, caller-ID, four streams of TV to watch and record), I did not feel it was worth the price increase. Have people been switching away from Time Warner/Dish/DirectTV to U-Verse? They are bombarding us with calls and mails and wondering how it is.
Cell Service has gotten better for Sprint Customers (when I first moved to Steiner I get a lot of dropped calls and bad reception in rooms of my house. Now it is much better. How about AT&T? I am thinking about getting an IPhone soon and was wondering how reception is in Steiner.
Also what do you guys say to people knocking on your door on Saturday mornings trying to talk to you about religion. It has happened every other weekend for the past few months… and I have tried to be polite but I just don’t want to have that discussion with them anymore. Any ideas? Do you think it is ok for them to knock on doors? Doesn’t Steiner Ranch have a policy against solicitors?

AT&T reception in Steiner was really bad for a while, but they added a new tower recently (like a few mo’s ago) and it has been solid since.

Our friends who’ve switched to UVerse are happy with their service. We’ll give them a try in the coming months.
We’ve had one Jehova’s Witness tract left for us, but generally we don’t answer the door for strangers.

I wish UVerse would come to The Headlands – I’d switch in a heartbeat based on the reviews from friends, family, and message boards.
ATT is great in Steiner for me and but used to have a dead spot on 620 just before 2222. They recently announced a network upgrade n the area and since then, the dead spot has vanished.
We don’t answer the door for religious types or the magazine crews.

I can only relate my experience with U-verse. Terrible. You HAVE to confirm the distance from your house to the fiber optic cable that runs up Quinlan. If you are anything above ~2,500 feet then avoid switching. You wont get 2 HD signals, and the one channel my freeze frequently. Even our standard def channels were unreliable.
We also had quite the adventure getting installed, and 6+ service calls while they tried to improve our service.
We switched back to TW.

Love UVerse, worth the switch from TWC & Direct TV
Hate ATT, dont get reception in my house in Lakewood and always drop on 620 before quinlann, and on Steiner Ranch heading up to 620
no religious solicitation…yet.

A peep hole on the front door is great for ignoring solicitors, just sucks when they catch you already outside.
My wife and I both only have AT&T iphones and no home phone and 90+% of the time we have no problems and 3g service (parkside).

We have TWC and have heard good and bad about U-Verse, so for now we’re staying put.
As for ATT service–it has been beyond horrible. We have had no luck with customer service in getting it resolved. Our calls drop on Steiner Ranch Blvd (near the Apartments) and on 620/2222 heading towards HEB. They often drop in our home, but for the most part, just those areas.

I had to put a no soliciting sign on our door. Too many people coming to the door.

I use my iPhone in the Headlands and I have TERRIBLE reception. I work from home and use that phone all day and drop at least 5 or 6 a day. It does come in handy when my Mother In Law starts blathering on. I just hang up and blame it on ATT later. There’s always a silver lining…

My husband has an iPhone (AT&T) and has had no reception issues (we are in Rocky Ridge).
The Jehovah’s Witnesses used to come here all the time, but we haven’t seen them in a while. I thought that maybe they had just gotten the hint.
I also heard a rumor that if Steiner Ranch would just put No Solicitation signs at the entrances, then they could actually enforce that rule. But since they aren’t there, people can technically solicit since there is not sign telling them not to. Don’t know if that’s true or not, but putting No Solicitation signs at the entrances certainly couldn’t hurt.

Years ago we used to have a no solicitation sign at the front of the neighborhood. I don’t know why they took it down, but I sure wish they would put it back up!

The Steiner Ranch message board has a No Solicitation sign built into the bottom. It’s always been there, but doesn’t work if it’s ignored.

Having been waiting in Canyon Glen for UVerse, have heard it is in other parts of Steiner. Will immediately switch if the Fibre distance is in good range. Have great connection with 3G iPhone and ATT at home and most places in Steiner. Only issue is dead spot on 620 going north uphill to Comanche Trail, but have gotten used to that one…

The No Solicitation sign at the bottom of the message board is useless if there’s not one at the other entrance. That’s not to say it wouldn’t still be ignored, but at least they can’t use the “there was no sign” excuse.

Any more information about UVerse quality? I’m in the Headlands and am thinking about switching to UVerse when I get a new HDTV. I currently have Dish (standard def), and could just upgrade to an HD receiver for that if no one has anything nice to say about HD and UVerse.

We like Uverse. At first the sports in HD was coming in pixely but I called them up and they opened up some port and it was fixed. Glad to be off Time Warner for now.

We switched from TW to U-Verse and haven’t looked back since. I ended up paying a bit more as I had negotiated a great deal with Time Warner, but we love all the additional channels and options.
My major complaint with the service is that you can only pause live TV on one DVR; every other TV in the house has to watch live TV with no way to rewind or watch the recorded items on the DVR. If U-Verse could fix this and let all the TV’s pause live TV it would be perfect.
I’m in the Chaparral area and haven’t had any signal or quality issues.

Just to clarify my previous post, you can watch everything that’s on the DVR from any room in the house. On the TV’s not hooked up to the DVR, you can only watch recorded items or watch live TV, but you won’t be able to pause the live feed.
You can record the show and then manipulate it that way, but it’s still a pain.
