I drive like maybe half of the people leaving Steiner down 2222 towards 360 and thanks to 2222/Lakewood this project. Details here and here. Picture below.
First a warning from Mark about more traffic cops
Just a warning – there has been an increase in traffic cops stationed on Steiner Ranch Blvd. I drive it to and from work every day. I was coming home late from a business trip about 3 weeks ago, and was pulled over and given a warning. Not learning my lesson, I was ticketed one morning last week. Last night, I was coming home late from work and saw another, but I was not speeding. I’ve seen them out several times in the last month. Most of the time they are either in the SELCO area or in the turn lane by the apartments. Be careful!
Also, from what I’ve heard, there have been a lot of patrols in the evenings, looking for folks coming out of the Steakhouse or Fion areas.
Now about the 2222 situation, because of rain maybe twice a year causing flooding in that area they want to revamp the entire low water crossing and entrance into the Lakewood area. Now for the next 18 months (starting about a week ago) they have been moving utilities, maybe adding a lane to get onto 360 southbound which the latter has caused significant slowdowns because people don’t know how to drive normally when there are orange cones on the road. I am not sure what to do now… routinely the traffic is backed up on 2222 to where the tumbleweed hill ends around where the new light is before bell mountain. I think what people are starting to do is cut through River Place a lot more. I think the real nightmare will be when eastbound 2222 will be one lane after 360 and before County Line. Once that happens you can forget about getting through that in a reasonable time and getting to work. Another alternative is to go the other way around on Lakeway and then through Bee Caves to get downtown… might be longer but shorter.

I also got a ticket a few weeks ago by two motorcycle cops parked in the Selco turn area. It was the middle of a weekday. When I went to pay my ticket they had the wrong posted speed at 30 instead of 35. That is a $50 difference and I have a call into an attorney right now.

Going the otherway out of SR toward RR has been somewhat bad lately. With backups in to work being around:
- 620 backed up from 2222 to comanche
- 620 backed up from Anderson to the 2nd and sometimes 1st boulder st.
Then on the way home I have noticed:
- 620 from just after the tollway exit to El Salido parkway being bad
Because of this and the growning # of us who are loving the hill country I have been using more and more of my backroad cut throughs just to keep my commute to 40-45 mins versus 1hr+
I feel bad for the neighborhoods I cut through (and I always slow down to the speed limit in those), but i don’t want to have to move back to P’Ville or RR.

The 18-month countdown doesn’t even start until May 2010. And two years from now traffic will be bad enough without the construction on that road. The monetary costs associated with the loss of time for every person on that road must be staggering.
I’d love to see a page on this site where people could add the delay in commute, annual salary and calculate the sum (adjusted to inflation and interest of course.)

If they’re going to build a bridge, build a new one somewhere between the dam and the Pennybacker bridge. That would alleviate a lot of the commute traffic that currently needs bottlenecked into the 2222/360 area.

Yes, the backup from the construction will be a nightmare. Not sure why they really need a new bridge. I’ve been driving the road for almost 10 years, and the only time it has been blocked was when we had the severe flooding in October 2001.

If only we had flying cars, none of this would be a problem.

It’s my understanding that the bridge needs to be replaced because it’s just old. Since they have to replace it anyway, they decided to raise it to prevent flooding and add a turn lane. I think the firestation being right there factored into the decision too. When that road is flooded, it makes it hard for them to respond to calls on the other side of 360. Still sucks, though.
I got a ticket on Quinlan Park Rd quite a while ago. Honestly, it doesn’t bother me. I would like to see people slow down through there.
The issue of building another route from 620 to 360 has been addressed by the city numerous times. All of the available land is either already slated for development or is protected and can’t be built on. Therefore, there is no where to build another road. These same reasons also prevent 2222 from being widened. Basically, there’s nothing they can do.

Also wanted to add that if you use the shoulder to turn right (south) on 360 from 2222, the sheriff’s dept WILL write you a ticket. I saw them directing EVERY car to pull over one day, so they could write them all tickets – there were about 8 pulled over. It’s nice to see that all other crime has been solved, and they have time to ticket people for actually keeping traffic moving.

I don’t know about you, Michelle, but when I was a kid, I thought we’d all have flying cars when we were this age. Maybe I was still subconsiously hoping for that when I moved here :0)
