Basically, something's broken. But in order for WCID to not drag their behinds and actually fix it, more people need to complain more often. Per someone who knows more than I do, call WCID anytime you smell it and use the pager line (should give you that info when you call the main number). It took a while to figure out that the likely culprit was the "lift station" down the street from our house. I didn't have a clue what a lift station was....until I googled it! Lift stations are a necessary evil ... but YUCK!! Like someone else said, the odor seemed to drift across the ground mostly at night when the air was still, making it too unpleasant to enjoy sitting outside.
