On January 31, 2022, the Hutto Economic Development Corp held a special board meeting to negotiate incentives to bring two high tech manufacturing projects to Hutto, which would create 1600 jobs and infuse three billion dollars in capital investment to the local economy.

The city is not naming the companies considering Hutto but did state that they would occupy nearly 600 acres at the city’s “megasite” located along route 79, not far from where Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd is building it’s semi-conductor plant.

According to the Austin Business Journal, Hutto’s economic development director stated that nothing was finalized yet and that decisions were expected to be made by mid year. He also shared preliminary (and subject to change) details about the deals saying that Hutto would negotiate a Chapter 380 agreement to provide about $80 million in incentives over a decade that would include infrastructure reimbursements, a possible tax abatement, a tax increment reinvestment zone and a sales tax sharing agreement.

All of this growth (as well as the rising prices in Austin) is pushing up home prices in Hutto and other areas outside of Austin proper. In Hutto (zip code 78634), the average list price in December 2021 was up 43% over December 2020 ($279,365 to $399,377). Average sales price was up 44% for the same periods and days on market decreased by 25%.
